"Look for what you notice, but no one else sees."
Rick Rubin, The Creative Act
This ignited a passion within me, inspiring my journey to capture and share the unique details that resonate with my soul. This exploration culminated in a recent exhibition in Bangalore.
Shiny Colours organized a National Art Contest and Exhibition, held from July 27th to 31st at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. I was honored to exhibit two of my paintings alongside esteemed artists and colleagues. The exhibition, spanning the entire ground floor, was a truly enriching and overwhelming experience.
This was my second exhibition at the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, and I continue to be captivated by the positive energy of the Shiny Colours team and the KCP staff. The serene environment, encompassing galleries, a college, pop-up exhibitions, and an art store, amidst lush greenery, creates a haven for art enthusiasts in Bangalore.
The selected paintings, "Summer Hues" and "Ma’s Orange Jam," are deeply personal works. Inspired by artists such as Lauren McCracken, Paul Jackson, Carrie Waller, Janet Fish, and Lana Privitera, I sought to transform ordinary objects into extraordinary compositions. Childhood memories with my mother, filled with the creation of culinary delights, provided a rich source of inspiration. The interplay of light on glass, jars, and crockery allowed me to tell a visual story and evoke a sense of connection. My mother’s fondness for fine bone china and crystal further fuelled my desire to elevate everyday objects through my art.
"Summer Hues" is a nostalgic tribute to the mango and orange jams my mother prepared during the seasons. This cherished memory continues to inspire my search for homemade jams.
"Ma’s Orange Jam" transports me back to childhood days in Durgapur, where I would eagerly dip my fingers into the sweet marmalade while basking in the sun.
The exhibition provided a platform to connect with individuals who shared similar nostalgic experiences. A reunion with a school friend, Kirti, after three decades was a highlight, as we reminisced about our childhood in Durgapur. It was wonderful to meet her and her daughter and sharing our thoughts after so many years. Meeting Bijoy Biswal, Amit Srivastav, Lingaraju MS, Subramaniam G and witnessing their artistic process was an unforgettable experience.
